I have been trying to teach myself CSS and have been trying to learn how to layout my site with CSS. So far I have this

http://www.decoratemyweb.com/template.htm

and my css for the layout is here
http://www.decoratemyweb.com/layout.css

I am trying to figure out how to layer things so that I can apply text on top of the "buttonBar" image and the "left" image. First of all, is this even possible? And second of all, if this is possible, can you tell me how, or point me to a tutorial that will help me figure out how?

Thanks in advance!

Easiest way is to set the image as the background for the element.

Code:
#btn_name{
background-image:url(path/image);
background-repeat:nono;
}

I think nono: sounds better. You are just like me Angele, I taught myself CSS. I have never used the ID (#) of CSS.

Hey is CSS the only way to make a page with a centred image and navigation and stuff on top of it? Am I going to have to buy a new book?

I want to be able to have a background image in the centre of the page (on any resolution monitor!) with stuff on top of it, to the side, below and on top! Is CSS the way forward to achieve this?

Thanks guys - I will appreciate it even if you write 'nono' again

Yep

CSS Code:
Code:
body {
background-image:url(imagename);
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-position:center center;
}
