CSS Newbie - Abandoned by web designer

We recently redesigned the website and everything looked fine--in Firefox.

I just noticed that we have serious problems in pages like this one, when they are viewed in Internet Explorer.

The first thing everyone will notice is the weird spacing between the first column and the main article.

The spacing works fine in Firefox, so what is causing this problem? My web designer has taken off for a vacation and I cannot reach him in Tahiti.

I have some experience in HTML and zero in CSS. I can probably follow instructions on how to edit a CSS file though. Can anyone spot the thing I have to change? Help!

You might first try a valid doctype.

Saying a valid doctype is a bull. I never used to use doctype (as I couldn't reach it) and the site would work better.

Without being able to see the CSS, I can't say what is wrong.

However, it may be that your web designer was about to finish editting the page and couldn't. I would leave it until he/she returns.

Could it be that he wrote valid mark-up language and the standards complient browser Firefox works fine but the buggy piece of unfinished dung known as IE, from Microsucks, is not a standards complient browser.

Thanks for the responses guys.

fancymoustache - I tried playing with valid doctype but it didn't help. Of course, there's a 95% chance that I had no idea what I was doing.

Twitch - Would you be able to see the CSS if you saved the complete web page? Or is there another CSS file that is not available even with a complete web page download? Either way, thanks for the offer.

Skorch - Yeah, my web designer is a big fan of Firefox, as am I. I love the tabbed browsing.

If it is compliant in Firefox, then it will be in IE6.

You have multiple CSS stylesheets, which isn't always a good idea, but I'll try to do my best.

I have spent the past 15 minutes looking through every line of CSS and I can't find the problem there. If it is in your HTML, I suggest you try using a WYSIWYG editor, like Dreamweaver in order to try and find the problem.

Wow, I really appreciate your help there Twitch.

Thanks for trying! I've tried using Dreamweaver to ferret out the problem. I'll give it one more shot.
