I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could layout a homepage that has enough keyword rich text to be in good seo position, but also have a very large graphical image that would appeal to my site viewers. Unfortunately I don't really need much text, but I know for decent ranking its necessary.

Something similiar to:http://www.ae.com OR http://www.aeropostale.com

You could try using the images as backgrounds and putting some good keyword rich text over top of that. Just use css to do it nicely so it blends well with your design. You might also want to add a paragraph of text somewhere else on the page that has more keywords, but also something that might help tell a little bit about your website and help your visitors. Remember, they are the most important aspect of your site!
