not sue what you mean are you talking about position such as "align" than No, because layers use "absolute" positioning...

<div style="position:absolute; top:x;" left:x;"></div>

you want relative positioning

how do you come to the conclusion that a <div> (layers) can only have position:absolute ?

elements can take any of the values for position http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_class_position.asp

he said layers not <div>'s so i assume he meant layers such as div's that are use to create the page such as those used in WYSIWYG editors using a absolute positioning.

for example those that are one on top of the other... you can also do this with relative positioning...

The other types of <div>'s (containers) are either use relative positioning, etc.

layers and divs are used to mean exactly the same thing. A layer in Dreamweaver is created using <div> tags.

the <layer> tag is a old now defunct tag that was Netscape specific and never made it to the W3 specs.

there is only one type of <div>

i wasn't talking about <layer> i was talking about visual layers such as divs position one on top of the other to make a webpage using absolute positioning, div's or containers are they are refered to by W3C is what makes up a layer (when you think about it in your head.)

But i do see where you are coming from, i guess we both know what we mean but can't quite comprehend each other.
