Tested a page using a semi-transparent background for a div on one of the mac/safari screenshot sites and it shows as entirely opaque. Is this filter not compatible with mac browsers?
filter: alpha(opacity=70);
-moz-opacity: 0.70;

filter:alpha() is used for IE and -moz-opacity is for older mozilla browsers. Safari understands the css3 standard which is just to use:
opacity:0.70;
It won't understand either of the two ways you have now
