I have a web site that really needs to be better presented. I downloaded a css template and noticed that it is divided into alot of gif files. How do I do this myself. Or does it require software to do this? I noticed that even some of the pictures are divided up into gifs with part of the background included in each gif. So it is not just replace a picture for a picture because you loose some of the background. Thanks Newbie to CSS Ted W Phx,AZ

Hey Ted, welcome to the forums.

Wouldn't worry too much about splitting images up more than necessary. Sometimes it can be convenient - i.e. better for different screen resolutions, but if you don't see a need, don't worry about it.

I believe photoshop has a good HTML image splitting feature

Photoshop's image slicing to html is horrendous. When I create a layout I 'slice' up my PS image manually, that way I control exactly what is needed. Then I drop that into my page and adjust the CSS accordingly.

You will need some kind of graphic program to 'slice' up graphics to fit the template. Lots and lots of cuts are generally not necessary though. Mine pages rarely use more than 5 or 6 tops.
