CSS layout - column widths etc.

Hi everyone

I am currently trying to convert my website to use css for the layout rather than templates and tables.
I have downloaded various scripts and am trying to adjust the sites accordingly to fit my various images and content.

However, considering how easy css is supposed to make things, I am finding it very difficult to get the sizes right and when I get one column right - the others mess up and I can't get them back in sync..

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to set about this or a rule of thumb etc for calculatng the widths.

I would really appreciate any help with this as various attempts to sort this have so far failed and I want to get it right using more up-to-date methods that will make updating easier.

Many Thanks in advance

Brian

CSS does make a lot of things easier, unfortunatly nobody said it was easy to get the hang of to start with

As for a rule of thumb, apart from being familiar with the box model and reading up on different methods of positioning there really isnt a hard and set rule, just like there is no hard and set width all over the net.

good luck.

There is a wealth of information here on css layouts, including multi-column layouts:

Hi people,

Thanks for the advice and great links...

I have also found a brill site that gives templates which are fairly easy to modify and I'm slowly getting the hang of it!

I never realised their could be so many variants to web design whether it be percentages or pixels, the screen resolution that ppl use or their browers etc etc...

It seems impossible to ever get 100% but we can try to aim for the best for our respective audiences I guess...

Thanks
