My white background works in IE but not in FF. Does anyone know why?

Your #wrapper does have a white background ! The problem is that your #wrapper is NOT containing #main because you have failed to CLEAR your float. Clear the float and you will see FF correctly 'wrap' around everything else and you'll get your white background.
