Width of iframe in IE6 - bizarre CSS issue

Hi folks

Can you help on the strange problem. I occasionally need to put an iframe within a div that is less than full width of the page. The iframe style itself is width:100%. FF, IE5, and Opera treat the 100% correctly as meaning 100% of the div. IE6 insists on treating it as 100% of the screen width. Here is the issue, on a page with everything else removed to cut it down to basics: http://ied.gospelcom.net/churchdesign-exampletest.php

Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a way round it?

Best wishes and thanks

Tony

Better to NOT use an iframe at all:

There's info on IE's crappy handling of percentages here:

Thanks! Well, in this situation, an iframe is sort of necessary, though only as a backup. I am offering content to other sites by javascript. For the people who have javascript disabled (never understood why), they content appears in an iframe.

Is there any way that the workaround in the page you mentioned:
Quote:
margin-left: expression(this.parentNode.offsetWidth / 10 + 'px'); is equivalent to margin-left: 10%;. This seems to be a (desperate) cure. The relation is fixed by explicitly referring to the parent.
would modify to a statement that meant
width: 100% of parent?

Best wishes and thanks

Tony

I can think of LOTS of reasons, not the least of which is to combat annoying tactics like pop-up windows and other 'stupid browser tricks" and malicious scripts that drop nasties on your machine.

As for the modification of the statement, I'd have to do some digging.

A friend of mine bragged to me that he's never paid for a single piece of software. I started telling him about idealists with open source, but he cut me off and said he gets Photoshop and Dreamweaver for free. Thought this was kidding, but he showed me a Google search that turned up serial numbers. So I said "Good luck not getting a virus" and he told me with java script disabled, he doesn't have to worry about it.

So I think that's one reason people turn it off.
