Hi All. It's been a while, I hope everyone is doing fine.

I have a situation with a kiosk I am developing with html. I am using frames and am having problems with my link colors.

I have links in different frames. Left frame as navigation frame and a middle from that has the main content.

I cannot get the visited links to look the way I want. Once I select a link it will not follow the css v:link ...

I haven't worked in frames for so long I am at a loss.

Can anyone tell be the best way to set up css in a framed site..

Thanks,

Chip

Do you have the stylesheet linked in all of the frames? Make sure it is linked up in the navigation frame as well as the content pages.

Nice to see you again Chip and glad you got everything worked out. One question. Why frames in the first place?

Hi Steve. Thanks for posting to say hi.

Low and behold I got a REAL JOB !! My wife works for a company called FlightSafety International. It is a pretty neat place. They called me in one day and offered me a position that I couldn't turn down... Now, I work for FlightSafety too. Living in the Savannah area the FlightSafety center here is the Gulfstream airplane Learning Center. We teach most of the Pilots that fly Gulfstream planes. Most of the Government, and Many other governments too, as well as other businesses. It's pretty cool stuff. I work in Courseware Support... Having experience with instructional design, it makes a really nice fit.

You know Steve, I am asking this question to myself. Why Frames? at first it was because I need to get this done really quick. I am creating a small kiosk that will sit at the front desk that will allow the clients to look up their instructor or other employee. There are about 150 instructors and over 50 employees.

It is running on a LAN without any web server or technology. All I have is html, etc to make this work; no database, no php. (I miss my web servers.) Anyway I am realizing there must be a better way.

I am also adding another link on this "kiosk" that will go to an outside web page and I must bring this into the presentation as if is is part of the kiosk.. Seamlessly.

I am open to any suggestions that anyone may have.. (hint) @;-)

--

On another note NOT related to this kiosk is yet another kiosk. I have been slated to create the software presentation for a monitor that will hang in the4 lobby. It is going to be a 42" plasma display. However, I may not be able to talk them into hosting a web server to run this on. They want some functionality like live weather updates a news ticker running across the screen, etc., and I may have to find ways to do this as the program sits on a server (not web.)

I havnever delivered to a 42" plasma scrren, do yo buy chance know what resolution I should use? They would like me to have most of this done before we receive the equipment. YES I KNOW I AM WORKING IN CORPORATE AMERICA AGAIN!!!

Anyway. It is good to hear from you to. I'll try to visit more often.

Congrats on the new job Chip. It may be corporate America again, but I'm sure the steady paycheck feels good.

Hmm? I assume server side includes (SSI) are out as well. I guess if all you have is the html and css then frames is the easy way to go. And it's not like you're worried about search engines here or people trying to bookmark pages or most of the other reasons why it's best to avoid frames. Frames actually sounds fine given what the site is for and who will be using it.

I can't say that I have experience with plasma tvs, but I did a little searching on resolution for 42 inch plasma tvs and most seem to be 1024x768. However those advertised as 1080p are 1920x1080 and I also see a 720p which has 1280x720 resolution.

I guess it's going to differ based on the tv, but 1024x768 looks like the safest bet. Sounds like an interesting project.

And do visit when you get a chance.

1024x768 is fine for large plasma screens

I wrote an application that runs a slideshow of images and adverts to a video broadcast system that has displays from 26" up to 50" on the system.

On your kiosk app, why not set IIS up on the machine that it is to run on? That will give you ASP, .NET & Access .mdb's as a database without the need to install anything.
