IE6 Divs...I Can't Figure It Out...

Welp, I have looked around everywhere, and have read page after page about the IE6 bugs for DIVs. Anyway, on my page www.launchify.com, the News Sidebar is floated to the left. The Main Content portion of the page is now appearing below the Sidebar in IE6 and earlier. I tried clearing the float, adding 3px to the container itself, and making the margin -3px, all with no luck.

Hopefully you guys will have some luck.

Thanks!
Mike

It appears below the sidebar in IE7 too; just an FYI.

Float your pagecontentport div to the left as well, and that should solve your issue.

By the way, are you trying to get it to fit on 800x600 resolution? If you are, you need to set the width to maximum 780 pixels, not 800 (remember the scrollbar!)

Oh...and welcome!

I tried floating the page content div as well and adding a DIV below those two with style: clear; height: 0px; width: 0px;, and it is still doing the same thing in IE6. Looks as it should in IE7/FF. Any other thoughts?

You are getting float drop. Make sure all your widths, including margin and padding, add up to a few pixels LESS than the parent container. IE's broken box model is a nightmare, but we'll have to combat it until IE6 dies it's rightful death.

Offtopic: I say we make it die it's rightful death! Don't worry about IE6 compatibility. Everyone needs to make their site say that it requires FireFox 2.0+ or IE7+!

Hehe (Too bad we would loose too much business because the world is still full of so many people who don't know how to download and install an application and the other half are simply too lazy to do so.)

Well, here is what I ended up doing. I floated both div's left, and added a clear: both div. I made the right column 5px less than what it should be, and added a container div the that whole portion with the background color I wanted, so it would look right in FF/IE7 still.

Look OK for everyone?
