Hello I have just started CSS and I have succesfully made <div> tags split the page in 2 with a line so it looks like this:

content1 | content2
content1 | content2
content1 | content2
content1 | content2
content1 | content2

My annoyance is this: if I am writing in collumn1 is there a way to make it automatically start filling from the top of the other <div> once a certain number of lines has been reached? If not with CSS is it possible to do it with PHP?

Hi...

Could you please elaborate? Do you have one column that goes a certain length and then start the other?

Do you have a page where you have an example?

Sorry, I am not very good at describing this.

Here is a page that I am trying to design my first proper CSS layout.

Go Here for my CSS layout so far

Basically I want it so that when the left column has reached a certain number of lines I want it to start automatically filling the right hand column. At the moment, each column has different <div> tags so the text is separate for each column.

That's not possible, due to user ability to resize text.

How can the user resize text? It will be me only uploading files. And if it still would not work, would there perhaps be a way of doing this with php?

What Adam means is, in Firefox ctrl+/ctrl- or IE View->Text Size->Largest/Larger/Medium/Smaller/Smallest.
I'd suggest taking a look at some of the multi column layout info on A List Apart (http://www.alistapart.com/topics/design/layout/).

On the topic of usability, muti-column layouts really suck on the web. Having to scroll down, up, and down again, just really bites. If you must make me scroll, one time in one direction is the way to go. I know a lot of designers like them, and they may look pretty but, they are hell to use.

Hi dandy,

To answer your second question, could you do this with PHP, ... absolutely, Take your text, and find a good cutting point around the middle, then put the first half in the left div and the second half in the right div.
