Alter the width of .main. It isn't large enough to float the two side by side.

Set the width of your .content div to 699px and it will work.

Actually reducing the left margin on #content will work too.

ok i have another problem.

the image whihc i want to be in the bottom corner, is causeing probs.
because i want it to be in like the bottom right of the thing, but i cant do that without setting the height of the content div to soemthing other than auto, and its fine for most opages, but on ones like the about. which is a fill page of text it goes into the footer stuff :s

how can i make the content height be the same as the navi/latest news stuff which i have at the mo around 550px but if its more, to make it bigger..

or should just use over flow, and then it goes into scoll?

Thanks
Dan

If you add a new div that contains the “left-navigation” and the “content”, but without the “footer”, you can add the background image to the new div, and then the image will always be just above the footer . (you will have to remove the .content height then)

Using overflow is a possibility to give your content the same height as your navi/latest news stuff, but keep in mind that people will have to double scroll!!! ( the full page + the content) Most of the visitors don’t like that.

Maybe using min-width is too a solution, but it’s not a generally supported issue I think.

Try this:
  • Remove the height-property in your .content style
  • Remove the background-property in your .content style
  • Place a new div in your mark-up , start it right before your “navi”-div, and end it right after your “brclear”-break So:
Code:
</div><!-- end quickmenu -->
 <div class=" tortoisediv">
<div class="navi">
And:
Code:
<br class="brclear" />
 </div>
<div class="footer">
  • Now Ad this code to your stylesheet:
Code:
.tortoisediv {
background:  url('http://calm.dansgalaxy.co.uk/images/trans_tortoise.png') bottom right no-repeat;
}
Now your contents height is auto, your footer doesn't hang in your menu and your turtoise-image is displayed in the bottom right corner of your content.

What I said about the “min-height”-property, it’s a CSS property wherein you can set a minimum height for your div, so your div can be higher (if there is more text), but not smaller than the defined minimum height. (but in IE6 and earlier it doesn’t work)

For IE 6 you have to declare a defined height.

yea, erm your idea just went all weird bas.

i think once i got the site sorted i might post the template and see if some people might like to design some templates for the site. :-)

yea i noticed that, where u have to define a height, i have chosen to do it so it works,

on my template i added a var so when i have on the page it has <div class="content" style="<? $extra_content_style ?>" >

so for pages which are longer than 550px i just set height: auto on the inline CSS so it extends to how ever long it needs to be.
