Okay, since seeing is easiest, I asked the person who is seeing a page differently than I am to make a screen shot.

First, this is a CSS page with a table for member listings added to just this one page. In the top two sets of boxes, my clients computers is showing the underlined titles a space down from the one's on the left side. Here's a link to a screenshot from his computer:

http://www.bratcitywebdesign.com/cs/ss1.html

But on my computer, it shows lining up just fine:

We're both using Win IE 7, but he does have a smaller monitor than I do, if that matters. I can't for the life of me figure out why he's seeing it this way and I'm not.

The actual page online with the table inserted in it is:
http://bratcitywebdesign.com/cs/03/board_members.html

Help?? Thanks!!!

I get the same "drop" in FF if I narrow my browser window, so it's not just IE 7 and does have to do with the contents and the scaling of the table cell. I could have something to do with that long, hairy, unbreakable email link which you've turned to ascii.

That method, by the way, will NOT stop email harvesters and spammers. I tried that method on my HS reunion site, didn't work. There is a better method, using some easy javascript:

Okay, I'll give the JS a try -- I used JS on my own e-mail link but thought encrypting these would be safer -- I seem to have a tendency to do things backwards.

Anyway, I'll give changing out those e-mail links a try and re-checking the scaling of the table cell. Thanks!!

I thought the encrypting thing would work too.. but the spiders and bots are 'smart' enough to untangle that so it never stopped them. I've gotten ZERO spam from that javascript method.

Ofcourse you wouldn't get any spam using that method, it is completly inaccessible to any type of non visual application Including text browsers and screen readers.

There is no fool proof way of shielding your inbox from spam without resorting to the inaccessible methods you mentions above. However you could always have a contact form on your site and use this instead.

You just have to accept that by publishing your email address you will get spam, just use a decent email client.

Jamie

I hate to be a pest, I really do, but would you mind taking another look? I swapped out the encryption with the JavaScript you showed me but something else clicked while I was looking at it minimized this time -- the vertical alignment because when shrunk (minimized), the "President" description is one line longer, which is probably how it is on his screen resolution! Gosh, I hope this does it. I vertically aligned the data cells to top.

And thanks again for the JS idea -- I do want to do whatever I can to protect their e-mail addresses and had no idea encryption can be read now -- but I guess I should have figured, huh.

Oh, excuse me Jamie ! I DO use a decent email client, and I do NOT mean that waste of code called Outlook or Outlook express ! I'm sorry, but it's a HUGE waste of time to always have to clean out 100's of spam emails a week.

While I am a proponent of accessibility, I'm not overly concerned with making the email address accessible in the context in which I use that script. On my reunion site I have no way to create a contact form that would not also get spammed, I'm not a programmer (anymore) and I do not WANT to be. I also do not have control of the domain or the servers, so I can't just install something. On my other sites, adding a contact form would be doable but not worth the time and money it would take to install it on over 80 sites.

Everyone must weigh the benefits and/or consequences of methods for their own sites with usage of such scripts. I don't think the board members represented by Jeni's clients would be too thrilled with being spammed to death by having their emails out in the open. Not everyone is a code monkey, not everyone CAN be, and not everyone WANTS to be either, so saying 'you have to use a contact form', isn't always a viable option.

Jeni, the site looks fine now, even if I squeeze my browser down quite a bit
