A city run entity just did this and I'm wondering if there's more wrong with this than a slap on the hand? Anyone know? I read ICANN policies and Network Solutions, where the domain names were registered, but it doesn't really say it's illegal. On ICANN, if I read correctly, you get 15 days to rectify the issue...anyone know a little more about this?

These idiots put it in the name of the local police dept. and put the fax and phone numbers as follows:

Registrant Phone:+1.9999999999
Registrant Phone Ext.:
Registrant FAX:+1.9999999999

If they get caught out on it, they could have problems. The question is then.. who's gonna report 'em ?? Hmmm.. ????

There are entries that have been incorrect for years within ICANN, and there's next to nothing they can do about them, so I don't think they care.

I know of domain names that friends of mine have owned going back to 1995 that they registered using their work address and phone number at the time as the correct address.

I wouldn't even worry about it myself.

Me, me, ME! I almost did but wasn't sure as to just how serious this is. Like Adam said -- would they really care?

I know I just recently almost got my domain taken away because when I switched from DSL to Cable I, of course, got a new e-mail address. I forgot to change it with domainsbyproxy.com and they were very strict about having all info current, updated and correct.

So, if this really is a matter, I WANT to report these idiots, but if it's not, I'd just as soon let it go and not make a dunderhead out of myself.

What many people overlook is the fact that domain registration information is a legal document and failure to have the correct details on it could result in them loosing the name and potentially any business they have built up that relies on the domain name.

Yes, chrishirst, that's what I was thinking -- especially after the strict treatment I rec'd from domainsbyproxy.com. But there was a bill that never passed (HR 3754) so I'm not sure now just where the law now stands...

Here's more info on that law, if anyone is interested:
