What is the fastest way to transfer a domain name?

A few years back, I transfered a domain name and the site went down for a few months...I've been scared to transfer domain names ever since.

When is transferring a domain name really necessary? People switch hosting all the time..pointing the DNS is no big deal.

Hello NateL,

To transfer the domain between the registrar is not in your hands but it depends on the losing and the upcoming registrar.
Once you confirm to the new registrar, then the they will sent an verification email to the losing registrar, now its time for the losing registrar to respond to the email if he fails to verify it than it takes times to transfer the domain. The verification email is active/valid for 24 hours.
Whenever you change your hosting provider, to access your website from there server you will have to update the name server to there name server.

Please let me know in case you have any more question in this regards, I will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

I think you may ask your host to do it for you or I know some web hosting companies do it for additional fee. I have the same problem with domain transfering and my web hosting provider Ahosting.biz does it easily with no issues. I have contacted them direcly and all have been done very quickly.

Agree. This is depend on registrar to registrar. Also I think that you have to remember about that you will need to pay renewal fee for the transer.

I know that EuroDNS.com offer free transfers, I guess that might be the policy of some other domain registrars as well.
