The second is better by far. I also dont like domains that start with "THE". You should go with the second

I like the second, shorter, no need for 'the'

second one def, i simply dont like putting 'the' in domain names!!! seems pointless

All agree. It doesn't sound like a commercial site though. Why not activist.org, if available? (actually both com and org appear to be parked).

The shorter the better. Choose domains with keywords and that are easy to remember.

Shortest is usually looked upon as better. But if what the site represents, like a band name or thetruth.com, thering.com, thecakeisalie etc I would think it would be the same, or even better.
