Hey peoples,

I'm just curious, how do you come up with names (domain or project) when you feel the need to release something to the world ?

I've been writing an XML/XSL library for php recently, and I feel like it should be of use to others (as I wrote it because I could not find anything good enough), and wanted to make it available.

As far as it's about coding and programming, no problem.
But when it comes to creativity, ouch...
I've been trying to come up with something memorable, that could be catchy and not related to a firm, an organization or any other library out there, but I could not find much.

I came up with "sixop": SImple Xml fOr Php
but I'm not very fond of it.

So, how do you peoples find it?
Is it an enlightenment, or a long meditative process ?

I have about 7 domains and when I choose them, I always think of something unique related to my website's niche then I do a search on google to see if its truely unique or popular and I decide from there.

Its not really a medative process lol. Just get what flows of your tongue. Make sure its marketable, not to lengthy and relates to what your trying to do. Type in everything you think off and make a note on notepad of whats there for you. If your not getting the domain for resale or parking revenue purposes then it's what you make of it. Hint: Easy way to see if domains are available without going forward and back, www.domainscour.com (of which i am not affiiated)

i think to form a domain names is different from project names. domain name can be unique name or a general name depends on what you want to do with it, for exmaple xmlapps.com is more like a general name that could be used for any xml applications, while EZXML.com is more like a brand/project name.

Just to keep you guys up to date, I've put it online.
The site is http://www.quixml.org

I know that it's ugly, but presentation is not my main concern for now.

Hu ???

What are you talking about ?
I never talked about protecting anything...

I talked about what would be wise to include when you release your work as open source and how to name the project with a simple and memorable name.
