Hi all
A friend of mine received a scam email from a Chinese registrar - the usual stuff about someone else trying to register the domains etc.
Unfortunately, she panicked and replied asking for costs as she is thinking of expanding into China and is interested in the domains. She then spoke to me and I advised her to simply ignore it as she is likely to get ripped off (not just for the domains but by giving out her credit card details to someone she doesn't know or trust).
The registrar has now registered the domains under her company name but with their details given for all contacts.
I see hundreds of these scam emails and have NEVER encountered a situation where someone then proceeded to register the domains in question.
Can anyone advise if this has happened to them?
I was going to advise that my friend just reply saying she will get her usual registrar to purchase the domains so that they will all be held in one place in the hope that the registrar will drop the names when they realise they aren't going to get paid, but wonder if this could in fact just lead to a legal battle to recover the names.
If anyone else has experience of this, please can you advise?!
