Hi,

I want to transfer a domain, or maybe 2.. but I want to know how long does it take to transfer since I enter the transfer code in the new company that will host my domain.

I ask this because my current host is gonna end in 14 days, and I've 2 free domains with them that I want to transfer.. I don't know if that's an issue or not..

Any comment or suggestion is really appreciated!.

If all emails are set correctly and everyone responds in a timely fashion 14 days should be enough.

I do suggest that you use one of the better known registars as the new one.

3-7 days is about the norm.

thanks for the answer... so I could transfer the domains in about 7 days if everything is fine.

I've found some registars:

godaddy.com
domain.com
name.com
namecheap.com
networksolutions.com

does anyone know which one is good, I was thinking about name.com or domain.com..

It depends on 2 things:
- where your domain was bought - reseller
- where you want to transfer it - NDS issues
But normally it takes as Filliate said - from 24 to 72 hrs.
It will be done shortly - just a little bit more pension.
Good luck.

It really depends on where it's registered and where you're transferring it too.

BamaStangGuy, I think that might be a push that you are talking about, while the original question seemed to be a registrar-registrar transfer. Not a GoDaddy user, so I may be wrong, but instant seems quite too fast for a transfer. O.O

It usually takes 3 days minimum from past experiences. If you have a quality registrar such as Moniker tho, it might be faster.

You need to make sure you approve the emails in a timely fashion. That was my biggest problem when transferring a domain name that I used to have hosting on (in my case, it was DreamHost).

If you're cancelling hosting with the place you registered your domain name with, they *might* require you to pay for the domain name but that's about it. They can't keep you held liable for hosting if you aren't using it. Of course, make sure you actually cancel the hosting service, though!

I've been wondering that myself.
I'm in the process of transferring a domain from godaddy to domainsite and it's been 8 days already. I'm getting really annoyed because when i emailed domainsite about 3 times over the last week, i have received no replies.

I have had to wait up to 10 day to transfer a domain using godaddy. It can take a while.

Namecheap or GoDaddy would be your best bet.

Domainsite is my only registrar right now and transferring through different accounts of domainsite takes no times, i.e. Instant.

Doesn't sound good. Check your spam folder and see if the approval email got sent to that. Otherwise, call them if you can.

Yeah, when i just push it to a different account, it's instant. But i'm getting pretty pissed off. I need to edit my nameservers asap.. :\

My Registry status is "clientUpdateProhibited" and status is "transfer authorized (4)"
Now it's been 9 days ><

I have checked my spam mail but have found nothing.

It kinda depends on the service it was bought with and who its being transfered to.

It could be a few minutes to a few days, though if it ends up in the 'days' category I would give a call into customer service of the initial service you bought it with to see what is going wrong.

Good luck!
