This is probably the only annoying part about domain names, besides the fact that most of them are taken. When you register a domain name, they must go through a period where you can't really touch them or move them. The only thing you can do is use them as your url. Why do they need this much propogation time? Well domain names need to settle at there main registrar so at least the registrar can register the domain name. There are millions of domain names, and my guess is it is just going to get longer.

Well I'm about to buy my first one in the coming weeks, so I'd like to here a bit more about this.

Well I'm about to buy my first one in the coming weeks, so I'd like to here a bit more about this.

I tried to transfer a domain name to another registrar, and they told me I had to wait 1 or 2 months to do it. I was like... "WHAT!?" Domain Names have to be reviewed, and such before they can transfer, so while going through there process, they do whatever they have too before you can do whatever you want with it, also Registrars want there credit so they keep them there for a long time. I'm sure they include it in the very fine print, but when I say very fine print, I mean it. I read somewhere that they do this, so as long as you are satisfied with your Registrar, than you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah you can. Just don't try and transfer it, unless they've taken this annoyance away. You can check with them, or read the agreement.

I'm just saying. If you need to sell it to someone, and they want it transferred to there registrar, than you will have some trouble. You would have to ask them to register with yours or something.

It shouldn't take 1-2 months. I moved one about a month ago and it took less than a week.
