Registering your name as a domain name. Would you consider this? This could be a great way to get yourself known, etc. For example if your name is John Smith, would you want to register www.johnsmith.com? Why does everyone seem to use that name as an example for everyone?

What are all of your thoughts on this?

Thought I saw a thread on this forum that was already about this hehe. I might register my name someday. I think you would have to be really really well known to make it a good name. Personally I dont randomly type in random websites with peoples names if I know about them.

There was a thread similar along the lines of this one, but not about anyone's names. I want to get into this, because this could be a way for someone to get really known.

I realize what you're saying, but if you develop the site, and keyword it right, people can search for hot topics, and see your name in Search Engines, etc. This could be a great way to get known.

If you have a great skill in something, for example, software developing, and you create software and add your website on the about page or something, your website would be very popular.

If you write articles, make your site about articless, etc.

Exactly, also helps if you are planning on being an author, actor, etc. Gets your name out there. Just some suggestions. I mean I am not going to guarantee anything but it can definitely help.

It sounds good, I own cpvr.net, but I just made it redirect to my site, virtualpetlist.com

Why? No time to develop it, cpvr.net is just what virtualpetlist.com is, my personal site, all content written by me, cept the games.

My suggestion is to not do it unless your business requires you to really get your name out to succeed. This however can be bypassed by any number of other methods. On one hand, yes this might help your business but on the other hand it might hinder it.

Think of it this way. Your a freelance writer trying to score a name for yourself. You open up a site using your name for the DN thinking people will come to recognize your work better. Again, there is a possibility you might get more traffic but if someone cant spell your name or remember it, then they will have a tougher time finding your site. If people cant find, you then all efforts at success are useless.

Not everyone has a name as simple as John Smith. For instance, it would be torture for anyone to have to be able to spell my name to get to my site. If you really do believe the best thing you can do is make your name your domain name, then shortening it is the best possible solution.

Example:
My full name is Dominik Jachimczuk. I would not expect someone to remember that to get to my site. Instead of www.dominikjachimczuk.com, I would use www.domj.com. Its much shorter and easier to remember and spell.
