im a noob and am wondering y these four letter domains are so sought after. is it due to their short length being brandable or easily remembered?

right you are noob! LLLL's value comes from there length. They become worth a whole lot more if they are pronouncable (not being an enlgish word), and if they are any kind of known acronym. Now if it's an actual four letter word, that's a whole different ball game, and a whole lot of money $$$
