Many registrars provide "name grabbing" services, that try to register the domain for you as soon as it becomes available. Some accept only the first submitted request, some might take more and action the domain in case it is registered.

You should seek and submit these requests to many different registrars to guarantee that you get your domain. I myself used this tactic 1.5 years ago to get a valuable domain that had expired. I can't recall the URLs of these services, but I do remember that not all require you to pay up front, only when they manage to get you the domain.

Many people do not even realize that these name grabbing services exist, and try to wait and manually register the domain on the day it is released. And the machines are of course faster

Good luck on your domain acquisition.
