Now I know that the obvious answer is .com but I'm trying to start a blog and the [keyword].com is taken, however I could get [keyword].info. Should I get the .info or maybe use use like [keywordsite].com or [aboutkeyword].com?

getting the .info would be good aswell, but if you'd like to drive more traffic you could use a 403 redirect from the site.com or about.com domains

Might be blackhat, if you're not down with that.

You could also use those two sites to do SEO and PR for your main site

I would ultimately prefer a .com URL over a .info if this was going to be my blog.

.info domains are, unfortunately, associated more with spam sites nowadays as they are often available either free or at very low cost.

Unless I'm building a site that is solely to get SE traffic rather than to actually build a brand on, I would suggest only using .com.
