Which isn't many other than people involved in online businesses. It would seemlike pagerank would be a better indicator than that no?

Check backlinks, archive.com, pagerank, etc. Also beware, i've heard that some parking programs will ban you for parking a domain with too many backlinks.

I think PR has almost nothing to do with traffic. I personally know of a PR 5 site that gets 25% traffic that one of my PR 2 sites get.

I don't know about past traffic, but an easy way to determine current traffic is to simply redirect the domain to a page where you can include a counter. I redirect my unused domains to a page where I run Google Analytics.

I'm more concerned with their traffic BEFORE I buy them though.
