You should read the rules of the company you got it from.

Is co.cc like .tk? Or any of those shortening URL websites? If so, then I don't see why it wouldn't stay free. .tk has stayed true to their word for quite some time now, though I think you can pay with them to remove their advertisement. At least that's how it was several years ago when I used them for a gaming website.

You should buy TLD rather these kind of free domains.

I don't like free domains such as .co.cc. Not only do I believe they look unprofessional I sometimes don't like to think that what I'm using is free and I'm bound to some rules which may determine something I don't want to do or abide by.

Read through the Terms & Conditions. If they say that you have to pay after the first year, then cancel now or before then. Or even better, get a paid domain name like .com or .co.uk.

Some of domains are free, totaly free. But there are always some terms of use. There is many hosting companys that will give you up to 3 free domains if you take hosting with them.

Microsoft offers free domain registration to small businesses. I have seen this work before! The problem is that they will have control of your domain and dns servers. Most people giving away free domains will do this to you.

With free domains, you won't have total control. Terms and conditions vary, so check out the company which gave you free domain. Better to learn about mistakes now than later.

For non-profit organisations you can get a domain under eu.org for free goto ww.eu.org for more details. It is run by volunteers and registration can take quite a while as it is manually administered, but hey it's free.

Our church got StLawrenceBarnwood.uk.eu.org from them completely free . No adverts, or any other strings. They've allowed us to move name servers to EveryDNS.com so I can now manage the domain online (eu.org do it by email) and we've got our website up and running using Google.Sites.

So our church got everything for free .
