I love .co.cc domain, for its excellent support and service. I also used uni.cc but they are not so good. If any one knows such another free domain name provider please post here. Please post those who give full dns control, not redirection.
What country does .CC belong to? I think tthat it might have troubles if you are not resident of that country. Just my guess..

register.com do have a promotion of free dot com registration for one year, but you need to remember to transfer out as their renewal fees is $35/year. Also getting the auth code requires calling in which is quite an hassle.
1&1 have some good deals on domains and hosting but their customer service sucks.

.co.cc is never seen in good serps, i dont know the reason why.

I used to use them but have heard many people have problems so I only use real domains now. Even .infos I have heard (and experienced) have some penalty on google as they are mostly spam sites (not all). So to sum it up I would say for any long term project that you are serious about, .com has more trust from google.

NO tlds have more (or less) "trust" with search engines.
It's the content you put on them that matters.

Do They allow you to transfer before the renewal period?

It may be true that there is no official penalty and that quality site can still do well on .info or other domain, it is just my opinion or better said my experiences and many people I have talked to have had similar issues with them.
As he said though, content is what matters. If your content is good you should still do well.
