Phishing is stealing other people's identity for illegal use (of course). Internet users should always be alert when you have to enter confidential data on a website. Make sure that it is the real one by checking its authentic marks. On Yahoo sign-in page, I always look for my unique seal before putting username and password. Otherwise, I refresh the page or open another window. I don't click "remember me" anymore.

Also the email your friend received is likely a scam. There's been a lot the last few days trying to convince people there's something wrong with their domains.

The catch is here: "1. Transfer Away all such domain names to another Registrar i" The email sender 'commanded' you to transfer. Maybe, he is expecting you to contact him for further explanation. I suggest you contact your host instead.

Phishing as I know it is most commonly used to refer to a site that looks just like another and has a fake login form. When the user enters their info it is really an email form that sends their information to an email address and they get a fake error message.

It is illegal even if you don't harm the data. I have heard of people getting in serious trouble phishing accounts on game sites like neopets. Also, vangogh and whguru have a point it seems like an odd request. Make sure the email itself is legit.
