wouldn't be registered with 1and1 by some chance would it?

It all depends on how efficient the existing registrar is, but retagging (changing from one registrar to another) takes about 30 seconds

Domain registration process is instant if your domain provider have the automated system. However, domain transfer might takes longer time as domain transfer process actually looks like below:

- You will need to submit your domain transfer request to your new domain provider
- you will need to provide your domain transfer EPP code to your new domain provider
- your domain provider will submit your domain transfer request to their domain registrar
- the new domain registrar will drop a domain transfer authorization email to the existing administrative email of this domain
- the domain administrative contact will need to follow the instructions given in the domain transfer authorization email to authorize the domain name to be transferred to the new domain registrar
- you will need to wait for existing/losing registrar to release the domain name to the new registrar before your domain name is consider fully transferred to the new registrar

Hope the above steps does nto sound too complicated.

If its a nominet domain (.uk) then it takes a few seconds for your registrar to change the tag.

Most other domains go through an automated transfer process that can take up to 5 days after the current admin email address confirms the transfer.

Generally all the Domain Names get Transferred to the New Registrar, in 5 days from you having approved the Transfer at the New Registrar, provided the Registrant or Administrative Contact does not cancel the Transfer.

I guess its a different process in case of .EU & .UK Domain Name & the transfer process is not supported in case of .WS Domain .....

30 Days?!?!? Which TLD or the Registrar are you talking about?

As per thats written on ICANN's website

Failure by the Registrar of Record to respond within five (5) calendar days to a notification from the Registry regarding a transfer request will result in a default "approval" of the transfer.

http://www.icann.org/en/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm

So ideally it should take just 5-6 days from you having approved the Transfer at the New Registrar.

Yes, that seems too "delayed" transfer. But you can specify it's status on your current domain name registrar anytime you wish

Sorry to hijack a thread, but I'm also having a few domains transfered from 1and1 and saw your post...

Having just taken over a few domains where I work from the previous idiot in charge, I've just started a domain transfer from 1and1 to 123-reg to consolidate the domains the company has.

The .co.uk's transfered within the same day, but the .com's still havnt transfered and it's been over a week now. Is 1and1 always slow, or has something cocked up somewhere?

I suppose that you are mixing things up here.
I guess you meant time for the DNS system to be set, didn't you?
