Here the story. I have a lot of domain name, some of them are very interesting, and i tried to sell them but I failed and i feel a lilttle desperate. I submit them to all the well known domain name websites http://www.sedo.com, http://www.thednforum.com, http://www.afternic.com, http://www.namepros.com and many others, but... nothing. My question is: all these guys I heard about, who made domain marketplace as a profession, have a secret to sell their domains or something ?

Please, I need some tips and I need to know if some people have the same issue than me.

Putting them on sites like sedo is a good start but unless the names are very good you could be waiting a long time.
I have sold 2 domains through sedo but it took over 3 years no fast sell for me i did get $x,xxx for one tho so not too bad.
Many profesional domains hunt down the buyers emailing them and the like. Email people who have similar domains or may be interested in your domains through their company but be careful that you do it professionaly.
Like selling anything you have got to make sure that it gets noticed if you were selling a car you would advertise in a few places set a price and give details about millage condition etc. You need to do the same with domains give traffic details and possible uses.
At the end of the day its not that easy other wise every one would do it, i have tried but for me it's been down to patiance. And if you look at places like dnforum.comhttp://www.dnforum.com
the big guns will not tell all in one nice post as they would loose their edge the only way is to read, read, read and then you may have some idea.

I have read, read, read and read over the last few years but only scratched the surface.

As many places was covered as better, but at the same time I suppose that the guy who is interested in your domain name will get in touch with you on his own

Mate may be people do not want to invest their money on domains and you did not get such people who is looking for this kind of domain so that they can build a website/blog/forum on that ...

Just use your signature links with the thread url and keep posting at there ... I am sure in 10 days you will get the success.

exactly ket67 and good domains hardly goes online for shop like ordinary domains.

Put content on them...if you have had domains and let them sit for a year or more with no content then it has been an absolute waste. In most case the "interesting" domains you have can be obtained in a slight variance through any registrar but if you have content and can build a little traffic and a few backlinks then you are adding value. We had a domain sit with just a simple automotive article site and though we did not promote it nor did we make any money off of it the domain did go to a pr1...had we just got a few backlinks to it and a little traffic we may have fared even better. We paid $50 for the content (which could be obtained for less these days) and sold the domain for $300. Had we just parked the domain I would probably still be the not so proud owner of a worthless domain.

All of the big names got there just the same way you're trying too. Gotta start at page one so don't fret, you gotta learn how the game is played like anything and once you do that you'll get better as you go.

Absolutely. Only the person who is really interested in your domain name might give you the sum you are expecting

Personally I think there's no substitute for a prospective buyer contacting you directly.

I was running one particular domain (or rather, it was runningg itself) when I got a call out of the blue from a prospective buyer.

I gave a price for:

• The Domain name
• The source code
• The data

They purchased the domain but never came back for anything else.

On the other hand, I have been trying to rid myself of a couple of domains for about 3 years now with no success.

If you have quality web site this will be not so hard to sell it.
I think you must post on some webmasters forums too.

I think it is hard to sale domains because i also have tried to sale my domains and till now i could not get success. i posted in some forums too and yet i wana sale domains but no customer is available for me so you should wait a long

Google your domain name term and see if there are any companies using similar but inferior domain names. If this is the case then send them a polite letter with your details offering them the domain at a reasonable price. I have sold many domain names by contacting end user clients directly. If you are relying on places like Sedo, Afternic, etc. alone you could be waiting a long time before getting any decent offers unless it's a super premium domain.

I own about 20-30 domains right now that have been purchased over the past couple years that I never had time to develop.

I will say it is easier to sell a domain if you develop a website with traffic. Domaining is a business in itself and I wont touch it for what I do now. You can be very succesuful if it is operated like a business however it is harder than offering design services it self. You have to market each domain rather than 1 company and services.

I will say that I developed a couple websites back around 2005-2006 when I was taking courses in web design in High School and always got done around a week early "they graduated me early' so my instructor let me develop websites to sell. Long story short I sold about 2 and I got $2,500 for one. I sat on the website for about 6 months though however I did not use any site such as sedo etc.

Website was about collecting toys and as you can imaging 2005 were peak years for collectibles like beanie babies etc.

Also, dont buy domains that you like. Buy domains that bring money. A good way to check is to look for google keywords. Keywords that are expensive to use in adwords and are a lot of results for are often good choices.

Examples of good domain types:

Real Estate
Forex
etc

Dont use two action words etc.

example of not to use: buybuy
example of to use: BuyKites

Keep it short.

Dont trust domain apprasisals that are provided instantly. They only go by search ranking and hits. So if you had googleme.com it would be a regular domain yet it is probably more valuable as it says google.

Dont use trademarked names:
Example of not to do: xboxgamer.com
Example of to do: videogamer.com

Search for the domains past history, if the domain is banned from google dont buy it.

Thats all I can think of.

Domain names sales are down across the board including the very best single word ones. Your best bet is to private email any business that might be able to use it as an improved/replacement name for their business. Google the keyword for your Domain name and contact the advertisers on the top and right and results on the 1st few Google results pages a short note saying you wish to make the name available to them before the name is auctioned.
Basically find those who can benefit the most from the names and email them.
Direct/targeted marketing is the most effective way. I work with www.inetbrokerage.com and www.sitetrader.com and can say I don't let a day pass with out shooting out emails regarding premium domain names.

I think that you can use existing marketplaces. I suppose that will take you a lot of time to build your own.

It seems as always - the key is content!!!
Given that I have very few skills then, what is the best way to build simple blog type content on these domains without coding and for very low hosting costs (or even free) althoug if there are ads I would prefer to make money from them myself - obviously.
