The other day I was using stimator which estimates your websites value and I used it on my sisters websites domain name. It gave it $150. A web designer made her site for free and it went down to $72 value. That made me cry I was laughing so hard.

What did the designer do to her website? Would you mind sharing a link so we can see?

well I guess you get what you paid for maybe if that would go on a 150$ maybe the site design will be better.

The designer didn't even use one specific alignment (which should always be left). It was hilarious though, because a brand new domain from godaddy.com says it is worth $150 on stimator (stimator.com) and as soon as she gets the content on the site its design brings it down in value, not to mention having a splash page brings down your sites value by a lot.

It simply demonstrates how utterly useless so called domain valuation "tools" are

yes, a lot of those "see how much your website is worth" things are completely useless.

They might miss certain factors such as the following...

- if your domain name is some kind of inside word known to a particular community and coveted by said community.

- whether or not you provide a subscription service of any sort either on site or off site.

Those factors alone are impossible to estimate with these tools. You have to go in there and check out monthly averages, make projections on what can be done to increase value, eliminate the things that are taking value away, etc.

too many factors that need to be measured by a human.

Do not pay the attention for the such kind of tools. Your web site and (or) your domain name worth as much as the real buyer is ready to pay for it

The tools are based on back-links, bookmarks, clean code, and more (supposedly).

That is tool and I assume that will never give you real price for the domain name you have

It is just a general estimator. It is not accurate, sometimes it can be close, but sometimes it is off by a long shot. Really where the value comes from is how much the person who is buying it is willing to pay.
