.COM is used for commercial and personal sites .NET is usually recommended for companies involved in Internet infrastructure and .US for US-based sites.

COM is the most popular one and that's all. All people will understand you once you say
"Go to webmaster-talk forum and see" and people will understand you and will type webmaster-talk.com in the address bar

Most experts recommend .com and then .org as extensions. After that, credibility tends to decrease for most users, especially with a new site.

If the .com is not available, your name is not going to be unique. If a domain name has already been taken, then there is a chance that someone already may have put a lot of effort into branding and making that name recognizable and attracting as much visitors as possible to that domain.
But if you manage find an available .com, you can be pretty sure that no one else has trademark rights to that name and you’ll probably show up on better positions in search engine results with it.

Definitely start with .com, then if you want to protect your brand register .net and .us as well.

I think that any person would like to have .com domain name. But this domain name extension is overcrowded.
If you can register COM domain name. But if you get ahead with your business that it is recommended to have all possible domain name extensions

.com is best and need not mandatory. But as somebody told it looks professional. Don't go for .us if you are not in US!!

I would disagree.
".com" is the best. My personal rule is if you can't get ".com", get another name.
".net" maybe, but i wouldn't even bother.
".us" is crap. Not even worth your registration fee.
".com" is the best. I repeat, because it's important

The only reason I know that a .com can be better is >
type "Google" into your browser then hit ctrl and enter.
Nine times out of ten you go to the .com, though sometimes it takes you to the .net
Sometimes of course, like in the case of Google if you are in the UK you get redirected to the .co.uk (or your Country)
