Yes, but here's my argument... did these guys do anything REAL with their site?

Quote:
I'm a Chinese in China and sorry for my poor English. I registered some domains starting with "dell", like dellmini9 .com & dellmini12 .com years ago, and forward the domains to a simple website with Google text ads to get some click earnings.
Now THAT is cybersquatting.

As for the "flash" scenario... I dunno, but I'm making is really a fan page where I create a site where people can share their stories, upload pics, and learn from each others mistakes. Along with that, have tips on proper care. Besides...

1) Apple doesn't own the "iPad" trademark
2) Apple seized domains not too long ago right? But do you know why?
Quote:
Apple accused Mr. Bijan of using the domains in “bad faith” because they forwarded to pages featuring products that compete with Apple’s products.
and worst case scenario - I get a letter from apple and I give up the domain name... and change the name to something else and thus, gaining some publicity in the process

Some one will own the trademark, then when your site has to get taken down because you used a trademarked name you will have nothing.

If i were you just use a different name at least that way you will not be disappointed in the end.

lol it's not going to get taken down especially if it promotes the product

Why is http://myipodbroke.com, http://myiphonebroke.com, and a bunch of other apple related sites around? Besides imagine the headlines if mine becomes popular and apple takes it out... it would make them look bad and bring me more visitors!

They are probably around because apple has not went after them yet, once apple decides to clean house those sites will most likely be gone and those peoples hard work is gone.

Visitors to what if they did take your site you would not get any of the visitors apple would own your site not you, and they would get them because your site is about the ipad and apple will own that trademark.

You can do as you please it is not my website, hope it works out for you.

There are a lot of people with name Jorge. And only few was US presidents. The domain is NAME of your web site and how that would be popular depends only on you.

Once a hostname (or any other company or product name) that that may infringe a trademark (or intellectual property) is is discovered by the trademark holder they have no option other than start a dispute and require that the user should "cease and desist" from using the name.
Simply because, if they do nothing once they are aware of the infringement, it will impact on future cases of them protecting their intellectual property or their trademark and in the worst case may actually lose their right to protect it.

Well you do see times where they do nothing... kleenex is an example... now it's become too common and hard to protect.

I'll take the risk lol we'll see what happens

Sometimes the owners do what they can to protect a name and still it become TOO generic
http://www.nowsell.com/marketing-gui...trademark.html

It can be a thin line between good branding and making the name generic.

Not really, it takes a few years for a name to become generic.

I do not think the ipod will be a generic name for a very long time.
