Do domain extensions make a difference to search rankings for certain things?

I.e. will a .co.uk ending help me rank in the Uk more than .us?

I believe it does but what is fact?

It does NOT help your pages RANK better in the local datacentres. It is a filter that can be applied to the results for any search pattern that MAY give precedence to pages that are "local"

I have never heard or seen the proves regarding that. I know the main thing for SE is content of your web site and that is something you should concentrate on.

I don't think it helps in ranking much.

I have heard that several times as a guesswork. But still no one have approved it.

I do not think that it would affect the rankings any way. .co.uk extension would be helpful if you want to target UK customers. As I am in UK myself then I must say that I am more likely to click on .co.uk extension fist if I am looking UK based products or services.

Domain extensions would not affect the rankings.

Although there are many new domain extensions available, dotcom is still the best choice.

Tlds have no affect on search engines. What really matters is SEO.

It really depends what type of website you are planning to make. .com is not always the best Joyce for everything and nowadays it is not always preferred either.

I think .co.uk lisitings are given priority in British searches just like .ca listings are given priority in Canadian searches. I could be wrong but I saw this phenomenon while searching for guitar sites.

I'm sure that only content is being taken in consideration by search engines.

And you would be wrong.

ccTLDs are used by search engines when determining what page should be shown for searchers using the local datacentre.

They are NOT given "priority", simply less likely to be filtered out for "local" search queries.

A global TLD (gTLD) (.com, .net etc) could still "outrank" a ccTLD in the local datacentre search.

The different country extensions just gives you more local results. I just prefer a .com most of the time rather than .co.uk's, .us's and those.

Do you want to say they do not pay any attention on content, don't you?
I suppose that could be good canadian web site but with COM domain name and It might be ranked higher then sites with CA domain names.

Of course, it's simply that if all other things are equal the .ca could have an small advantage.

BUT if the searcher has checked the "pages from Canada" radio then the "local filtering" would come into play.

The domain extensions are choosen very wisely. The worst TLD's to count are .info, .co, .me etc.

Is it true??? bcoz Im planin to buy many ".info" domains .. due to availability of keywords in domain..

check "pagerank cheker" in google.. u can find ".info" domain in first place.. its due to its strong backlinks + seo

so I feel ".info" domains are equal to ".com" in search rankings.. it all depends on site content +seo factors..

No it's not but your short sighted thinking is exactly why ALL .info TLDs are considered to be of poor quality.

It "proves" nothing about "strong backlinks" or "SEO".

It simply proves that the people who link to such crappy tools either cannot spell correctly or do not speak or write English!!
