I've found a .com domain that you can actually read and is legitimate PR4. Of course this domain isn't cheap for me because I'm not rich man. I've been going crazy over my head because I can't decide if I want to follow up trough this..

I decided to ask more experienced webmasters if they think my plan is a good idea at all. I want to buy the domain and make a proxy site. My idea was that since it is aged (4 years), and if I optimize it for a few long tail keywords that have to do with "proxy" maybe it can rank well and pay back for it self. Does anyone think it's too late and the competition is way to condensed in the proxy business? I decided to wait another day before I make the purchase because I need someone else opinion.

Thank you in advance! Any advice helps.

page rank and age make no difference to how well it will do, your buying it for the wrong reasons.

So you don't think that it that an aged PR4 domain would help the SERP at all? Wouldn't help in terms of traffic either?

If it is or was a proxy site before then yes it may or will help for traffic, if it was a cuddly teddy bear site before then it will help you in no way at all.

As for page rank, that is defunct and totally meaningless.

I see. I was looking back at archives before and I realized that it would be a cuddly teddy bear site and not related at all to a proxy site.

You say it's meaningless.. Not a tiny bit at all? Why is it that everyone seems to buy high PR domains first?

No idea, one of lifes unanswered questions, why are there suicide bombers, why do people believe in Gods
Ok at one time page rank was actually important and did affect how well your site would do, but that was quite a long time ago.

The domain name is being optimized for certain keywords and I suppose it has PR because of that.

BTW the decision is very simple!

If you think the price is too high then you KNOW you cannot justify buying it.

Chris, so is it helpful that domain has PR with links pointing to it such as domain.com but not with any keywords? Wouldn't that help all around ranking?

Not especially, with Google, it is the anchor text that adds "weight" to the page.

NOW! If those links are likely to send some useful traffic that would put a different light on things, but unless the anchor text is somewhere near to the use you will be putting the site to it is unlikely to convert.

Indeed. But using another keywords on the new web site will cause dropping in the SERP.

if you're going to do proxy business, maybe you should look for a domain that is relative to your subject?

No it simply means that the existing links won't be helping the new content, but it cause it to "drop"

Good point! I smell what your stepping on so to speak. The domain I had in mind earlier went up to $150.. I bidded when it had no bids 10min earlier than everything downhill from there.. Life happens. Now I've found another target and in a few days will try to bid 9 min before ending time :)

There is still a market for proxy sites but I think it really comes down to how well you market it.

The look of the web site and how it functions has to be to the TEE or else it will look like the competition and fail.
