Moving a domain name from a web site to another

Hello everyone,

I have a web site and a blog.
The blog is hosted on squarespace.com while the web site is on 000webhost.com.
The blog has been first developed a few years ago with a domain name in .org and now my intent is to use this domain name for the new web site.

I would like to know if my strategy is correct:

- removing the .org domain name from the custom domain section in squarespace.com. The blog should be then accessible through the default address provided by squarespace: blog.squarespace.com

- changing the CNAME record on godaddy to point the .org domain name to the new site on 000webhost.com

- adding the .org domain name to the parked domains on 000webhost.com

Thank you for your comments.

I'm not sure if I understand your question but I will take a stab at it.

If I understand it correctly, you just want to use a domain name to go to a certain website...

First off, you would not need to do anything with the existing .org domain name that you was talking about. A website can be accessed through multiple domains, for example I have 3 domains pointing to my personal site.

What you would need to do is first find out the nameservers (primary and secondary) for your web hosting that you are wanting the domain name to go to. You can figure this out through whoever is hosting your website.

After you know the nameservers, you will then log into godaddy to change the domains nameservers to whatever your web host provides you. If you have cPanel or any type of admin control over your hosting (which I'm assuming you would) you would then go into your admin settings and try to add the new domain then.

Nameservers can take up to 48 hours because of DNS refresh issues, but from my personal experiences it has never taken longer than a few hours.

If this isn't what you was looking for, disregard everything I said, but I hope it helps lol

EDIT: I noticed you are using 000webhost. I've used them before. Their tech support is horrible, my website stayed down 50% of the time, and it is nothing but a complete headache. I would suggest paying $4 a month to have reliable hosting. As a side note, I remember they do have an option in their admin panel for adding domains.

Coding is just like a woman. If you don't do something exactly right, it complains.

Wrong. Just point the .com DNS records to the server hosting your website you want on the .com. To give the "Pagerank" to the .com name then set up a friend SEO redirect to the new .com.

A website can have more than one domain name... It actually could have infinite if you wanted.

Hello WebTraffic and qizzle,

Thanks for your comments.
Actually I don't have a new domain name.
I have a .org pointing to a blog and I have a default address (website.uphero.com) pointing to the new website.
What I would like to do is using the .org name for the new website.

Thanks,
Nicolas

I recommend you copy all content first to the new place. Do not delete that. Then change nameservers for the domain name. That should go smoothly without any uptime at all.

If you ask your new web hosting company to take care of it I believe they will do that for you with no fee.

i think you should buy new domain, and you redirect your old domain into your new domain. It more simple and you still get traffic from your old domain.
