But I am trying to learn.

I recently set up a lamp server on a ubuntu machine with dedicated internet access (with the intent of learning about website hosting, design, etc.).

I also purchased a domain name from godaddy.

Should I be forwarding with masking the domain name to my computer's IP?
Would there be a way to ssh to my computer through that domain name?

And Ubuntu does NOT make for a good OS to learn about hosting on, there are some limitations.

Download a copy of Centos and install that instead.

SEO? Is that search engine optimization? No, I'm not concerned. I'm not looking for high traffic; the site is for me to learn.

I'm mostly concerned that when they visit the site, they don't ever see my IP. Forwarding + masking hides the IP on the address bar, but not when the page is not available.
