Hey everyone, I'm new to this but just wanted to ask a few questions to start. First of all, I am representing a client who's previous web designer wouldn't relinquish their domain names. Purchased with the client's money but wanted to charge thousands per domain name. He then sold them to a competitor, I am sure for close to cost. Thinking I could probably not do anything, I still contacted godaddy.com and ICANN. Do you guys have any other ideas of things I can do? I purchased a bunch of similar domain names, but most of the ones with the client's name (M. DiFoggio) were already sold to the competitor (roter rooter!). I believe this is just plain bad business on the part of the previous designer and could use some suggestions!

I agree with Siber. Only having trade mark you will be able to help in this case.

You can talk directly with the person or company that currently controls the domains and explain the situation. However they most likely knew what they were doing when they purchased the domains and probably won't be helpful

You're probably going to need to resolve this in court. Seek out the advice of an attorney. You're going to get better advice from an attorney than you will from any of us.

Collect every bit of information you can showing your client is the one who originally paid for the domain and any contracts of agreements your client had with the old designer.

I suppose they are direct competitors and that is the main issue here.

I was thinking the same thing. It's worth a shot giving them a call, but it's probably not going to be useful.
