Well, it has been discussed for years, which is not the point for me. I base my opinions on the results I see by my own eyes and not by what have been discussed by so called SEO experts, I read what they say and I consider what they say, but it does not mean I have to believe or follow everything they say.
In SEO, everyone has his own beliefs whether it is based or not, tested or not, logical or not, and everyone has his own tactics as well. So, almost anything in this industry is debatable, there are basics and I agree, but there are complicated issues as well.
As for your statement:

This is not correct, because a domain name is a keyword by itself. For example, the domain name (SEO.com) and the domain name (Something.com).
If both domains are new and we optimize them in the same way and build back links for both domains, targeting for the same keyword, which is for example (SEO), SEO.com will be ranking higher than (something.com). You can test it by yourself.
Thus, the domain name plays a rule in SEO and this is the reason why webmasters run after keyword rich domain names.
As to which is better (Domain-Name.com) or (DomainName.com) from SEO point of view. I believe (Domain-Name.com) is better than (DomainName.com).
Another good example is deep links, look at the URL of this page, it is (which-is-better.html) and not (whichisbetter.html), if (which-is-better.html) and (whichisbetter.html) have no difference, then why everyone who had done SEO is using URL's similar in form to (which-is-better.html).
