Hi

I have created a search engine but I am in need of a name for my site title and for my domain name. There are just a few specifications...

1. It must be between 4 and 7 letters
2. It must be two sylables at the most

Would love to hear peoples ideas,
Thanks

I guess nobody will give you ideas ,they will just register the domain for theirself !
If you don't have inspiration you can search for websites wich give domain name ideas ...
good luck!

Maybe you need to follow the footsteps of all the rest of the big search engines and just come up with some totally meaningless name like google, yahoo, or bing. Best of luck to you! Please come back when you get it up and running. I would love to see how it works.

Thanks for all the ideas and tips. Keep them coming!

Also, SearchOn is a very good idea Khaiylle but unfortunately the domain name is taken. Does anyone have any ideas that are crazy or meaning less like google, yahoo or bing?

Thanks

Hi and thanks alot for all of your suggestions!

www.whyteon.com sounds like a good idea, I will think about it but I will still look for others.

For your information about my website; its a general search engine like Google, Bing or Yahoo. I index all of my own results using my own ranking algorithms. I cover Web, Images, News, Videos, Shopping etc...

I hope this information helps you.

Thanks

And does the name of the best known search engine have anything to do with "search"??

The name doesn't have to have anything to do with search. My search engine that im trying to rebrand at the moment [removed] is difficult to spell but it doesnt have anything to do with search.

So in answer to your question; no it does not need to be to do with search.

Thanks
Callum

So what is so wrong with [removed]? It has a unique sound to it IMO. It is all about how you want to brand your new search engine. Some the other newer search engines have names like Yippy or DuckDuckGo. Neither of these names had any meaning in relationship to a search engines until they went live.

Branding IS taking a name then marketing and promoting it until it is recognised and remembered. What that name actually is, is unimportant.

[removed] is as good as anything else, short enough to recall, not difficult to spell or say to anyone on the telephone.
Frankly I don't see why you consider it a problem. I don't see a reason why it could not become a household name with the right driving force and advertising.

A few years ago nobody really knew how to spell or say "Peugot" outside of France.

Thanks for the suggestions. The reason I dont like [removed] is if you tell someone to spell it they most commonly spell it [removed], [removed] or [removed] so It is hard to say down the phone. Otherwise I liked the name.

Has anyone get any other suggestions?

Aha! Now i see the potential problem

so it's removed not "removed" which is what it looks like.

One thing you could do would be to create a logo of the name that stylised the IY to make it obvious, the character count is symetrical about the 'X' so it's not too difficult.
hint: The centre of the 'X' creates a natural pivot point

Create a byline (slogan) to emphasise or highlight the spelling in some way.
Maybe with removed horizontal and the words vertical (think Scrabble board).

Great tips thanks Chris. I will look into doing this.
