How can I improve the value of a domain?

I currently have a domain that is six years old. I have not done anything with it since I bought it so I've decided to sell it.

It's long but has great marketing ability.

What steps can I take to improve the value of this domain?

Thanks!

The only thing that would make it worth more is if you built a site on it that was worth money. Unfortunately unless a big company comes along who wants it, you probably won't get much for it.

Thanks for the response.

Do I build a site around the topic of the domain?

Do I just add content to a web page, filled with keywords?

Ugh, don't know how to phrase this.

Oh, that is hard to say. Actually no any way to improve that. You should make a website for it first, then make ad for it, when everyone know your domain name, then it worth money

Domain parking lets you earn money on unused domains.

This is the option to 'park' your domain name without actually having your web site up and running. This is a nice option if you want to acquire a domain name for your web site well ahead of having the web site itself designed and constructed.

As I have said on many occasions hostnames are worth the registration fee or what some fool will pay for them.

Some names are easier to recall than others.
Some names are easier to type than others.
Some names may suggest what you will find on the pages.

And some names may get random traffic from the "domain guessing public", BUT (and be realistic) would you type in buyatelevisiononline.com?????

You would have to sign up for a webhosting service, build a site that is relavent to the keywords in the domain, get SE traffic and links, then monetize the site with ads.

But it doesn't sound like you're interested in building sites, maybe just cut your losses and let it drop.

I've been building sites since 2005 so that's not a big deal. I wouldn't be building a site to earn revenue from it, I'd be building it to increase the value of the domain. Whatever I build on the site would probably be erased when purchased.

Not sure about the whole 'build a site on it' philosophy. If you're trying to sell a domain, most people are looking for a domain name that fits with what they want (and don't care about the site) or they are looking for a domain with PR ranking.

If you build a site on it just to get links and increase traffic and PR, that will still take a while. Why don't you go ahead and monetize it? At least you'll get SOME money. Plus you can say it earns $XX and that will increase the value.

Of course, after you do all that - then what you really are selling is a website, not just a domain.

There's no actual way to increase the value of just the domain - it either has inherent value or it doesn't.

BTW - I know someone who sold their 3 letter domain to a company with the same initials for $12,000. That was quite a while ago, too.

Only way to increase the value is to increase demand for it by increasing the traffic potential of the domain. The only reason people want to buy a domain is because it can bring in traffic.

There are a few ways. The first thing you need to look for in domain names is 100% keywords. The more the keywords are searched the higher value of the domain name.

Next you need to age the domain name. For some reason people tend to think that older domain names carry weight in search engines.

Building up your websites pagerank is also another great option. Since people are always looking to cut corners.

Build Traffic: Know how much webmaster-talk sold for? No idea but you can imagine it was alot. The main reason is that it had alot of website traffic.

Those are just a few ways to make you domain name valuable.

A domain parking service is the most easiest way to earn money with an unused domain

Value depends on its Google PR as well along with domain age.

If you put up a few pages of content and backlink it, it will aid its PR which will help to push up the value. Just a shame there has been no PR update for 9 months.

The best way to increase value is to start making a profit! Get some content up, get it indexed, build backlinks and slap on some adsense ads. Sites with adsense income sell really fast online if the earnings are steady over time.
