Hi!

Does anybody know of any software that will enable me to set up a domain watching service for my clients? Cheap and cheerful is the key here as always! I do not want to use one of these expensive providers - if they can get the technology I presume that I can. I would need something that can watch all gTLD's worldwide (+ UK ccTLD) for domains containing client's company name or whatever and an identical watch at the minimum on most other ccTLD's.

As I say, this service is provided at great expense by some of the bigger corporate registrars. Surely they can't all write their own programmes for this? I want to get me one!

I'm guessing you mean watching for expired domains? I believe what the companies do is they have a list of dictionary words and they just start checking those, then they start using wild cards. There are whois providers that offer API's to interface with them. You just have to take your time to write the software.

What I am actually after is a way of watching for domain names being registered which are very similar to trade marks and domains currently owned by a particular client, in order that any infringement proceedings etc. can be taken to police brand ownership and quickly stamp on abusive registrations, for example.

Something similar to this service http://www.compu-mark.com/emea/lang/en/pid/51, but I want to be able to provide it myself without having to pay a third party and I also need it to cover as many ccTLD's as possible.

Anybody know of anything like this that can be bought off the shelf or (I'm REALLY hoping now!) free/shareware?

I do not know of any third party software that does this however if you can't find anything I could write something similiar (at least in PHP for cheap) however if you want a winforms app I'm sure it can be done as well but with a bit more work.
