Anyone can tell me where to register cheap (< $5,00) .info or cno domains + privacy protection?

Namecheap.com had a special on .info domains a little while back for $2.88. Another web provider a couple months back was offering free .info domains. I'd search around on google and see what you can turn up.

I believe Dotster has something called "happy hour" everyone once in a while, where domains sell for $1. Not sure if they support the extensions you want, however.

For real? No transfer options? I have never heard of anyhing like that. How do they get away with it?

You can get a .COM for 2 years from Yahoo at that price. Customer support sucks though.

I just bought some domains because I'm not sure how long the sale will last. Also there is no need for you to type in a promo code to get the discounted rate.
