Hi all, got myself a domain name from my ISP in April this year. Paid my money and everything's okay. The other day I get a letter from Nominet saying that I have to confirm my registration. Now I've never heard of these people but they have my address and domain name. When I go on their site I notice that under the fees section they start talking about £80+vat, which I don't have, and about entering into a 3 way contract between myself, them and my ISP. WTF? Are these just scamming bastards trying to get me to sign up for something i don't need? I've only got a poxy little site showing my photos and this seems a bit over the top, and was certainly never mentioned when I first got the domain ogg my ISP. Fortunately after going through the registration process on Nominet I backed out before confirming anything. Thoughts please?

nothing to worry buddy there are many ways of finding ur street add from ur url .... just ignore them moreover email them that ur going to report this matter to police and FBI ....
i m sure they will not bother u again ....

Yeah I'm going to give them a call Monday and see what the score is. Got caught for £70 from some dodgy ISP the other month for a service I cancelled!

If so, Nominet IIRC is the governing body in charge of .uk domain registrations (much as CIRA is for .ca and Very Sly is for .com/.net/.org).

Before you go threatening them, find out exactly what it is they want first. If it's anything like the .CA registration, you just have to click on a button about 6 times to indicate that you are who you say you are (because apparently clicking on a button 6 times is conclusive evidence.) It's probably legit, at any rate. Just find out what they want, and EXACTLY what steps they want you to take.

Hi Adam, yeah I had a re-look at their site and found that they only charge me in this case if I a) transfer my domain or b) register it with them directly. Seeing as my ISP is an agent of Nominet then I owe them nothing as my ISP does it all for me. Just get suspicious sometimeswhen I think people are after my cash! Got the forms filled in and everythings sorted.
