Can someone tell me more about domain forwarding and how does it work? Someone call my boss and told him to buy a bunch of domain name then have it forward to his existing domain. They told him that doing that will drive more traffic to his existing domain. I am a bit confuse; i would like to know how will the new domain be expose?

Usually people buy expired famous or (say been online for a while) and redirect the visitors to your website.

This can be done in .htaccess file of the domain by permanantredirection.

Like:
RedirectMatch permanent ^/$ http://anotherdomain.com
