The domain name won't matter for SEO but it can make a HUGE difference for SEM

If you have the particular keywords in your domain name which you are specifically targeting for the search results than definitely it will help you in SEO.

For choosing a domain name go for a short and easy to remember and type. Also it should be easy when it comes to let others know verbally about it.
It's of course not compulsory to choose a short one but if the long domain name makes sense and helps you with the keywords then probably you can go with it.
