I had a site called Valhalla Photos for a few years, and lost it when the registrar and host messed things up. Turned into a dispute, and they locked the domain. I've been trying to get it back for a while, and worrying that someone would snatch it up and park a bunch of ads.

Lesson: always register a hosting package and domain name separately, so if one goes sour, all is not lost.

Agreed 100%.. and don't mess with resellers IMHO. go with a company who's #1 business is registrations.

I only use GoDaddy they are the best for so many reasons.

Congrats Forrest and I agree get your domains from one place and your hosting from another and always make sure your name is listed as the registrant and the admin contact on the domain.

That's the thing ... I had made a typo when I put in my email address, so I haven't been able to just simply transfer it away.

One question, might be a little bit off topic but few mentioned GoDaddy as perfect host provider... I have only heard the worst things about godaddy
So, what is the true?

I've used GoDaddy as a domain registrar and been happy with them (though you do need to read what you're clicking or you'll agree to more than you want). I've never used them for hosting.

godaddy hosting is ok unless you are a big Cpanel user or your site needs most of services in cpanel coz they don't have cpanel. Bad thing about them is they dont have a proper stat system. If you want to get complete stat system you have to pay, its not included in your hosting account.

Good advice, they always try to sneak in the small questions like:
"would you also like to buy (domainname).biz?"

And they always try to default the registration term to 2 years with no discount... That kind of gets to me... But overall, they've been great so far, very reliable, great tech support...

I forget what part of the registration it is, but they have that huge button just begging to be clicked when what you really want is the tiny link below the button.

It is an attempt to prey on those who don't read what they're clicking, but if you can get past that they are pretty good as a registrar.

I haven't really worked with them in the longest time. I helped someone else register a domain name and get hosting through them, and for about half a day the registration was locked, parked on nothing but advertising. That kind of bugged me. But once everything was unlocked, we just sent the files up by FTP and set up Google Analytics. So I really can't say one way or the other.

Personally, I've had good experiences with "blue host."

congrats for having your domain name back, and you know, your advice is just amazing, to purchase domain name and web hosting package separately..
