Jail time for entering false information on domain registrations

This is a bit off putting. Not all of us who put in fake information are dishonest. Some just wish to keep the dishonest from nagging us with phone, mail and email solicitations.

Hi Drache,

Yes, I heard about that "law" a few months ago, and it looks like they still haven't got anywhere with it. If you'll look at the date of the article you just posted, it was written on May 3rd, which is 3 and a half months ago. They were actually talking about having this law take into effect all over the world. I don't think it's possible for them to actually imprison these people, however. Seriously, who's going to go to Tajikistan or Botswana just because one person there is entering false WHOIS info? Plus, the governments of other countries would probably would stop the US from taking their people anyway.

However, I totally agree with your point, Drache. I don't want dishnoest people looking up my address and phone number in the WHOIS directory just so they can call me about their stupid services. Likewise, I wouldn't appreciate it at all if I started receiving advertisements in the mail...inside my real mailbox. Anyway, this is just another one of the US government's pathetic attempts to further kill the Internet industry.
