Hi David,
That was a great article! I agree with all of the points you made. In fact, I found it so resourceful that I gave it a 10. Oh, and congratulations for getting published!
I would just like to add something to your article. Of course, .com is always the ideal name for any website. However, if you want a great name (that is already taken for .com, .net, and .org), I definitely would recommend going for a country-level domain. I bet that had many of the .net sites gone for strange country-level domains, their site names would have been easier to remember. Take the popular (though sub-par) webhost f2g.net...I was always confusing it with f2g.com, which leads to a site about antifungal treatment. Quite different from free webhosting, I'm sure you'll agree. If they had gotten something like: f2g.id (Indonesia) or even f2g.lk (Sri Lanka), surely less mistakes would have been made because those extensions are just so unique. You might even be able to catch a winner sometimes. Looking to create a WinXP site? You might be able to snare winxp.ms (which would really be a winner, considering the Montserrat extension matches those of Microsoft...).
